Diversion of obstetrical labour and delivery services extended - 02/05/2018

The diversion of obstetrical labour and delivery services from James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander to Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor that began on February 16, 2018 will continue until October 31, 2018.

This service diversion is due to the availability of obstetrical service providers.

Central Health continues to recruit obstetricians, engage family physicians to explore obstetrical provider training, and looks forward to welcoming midwives to strengthen an interdisciplinary obstetrical labour and delivery services team at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre.

Prenatal clinic referrals from family physicians will continue to be received by the Women's Health Network (WHN).

Expectant moms do not need to call to reschedule their prenatal clinic appointments, and they do not need new referrals from their family physicians. They will be contacted if there are any changes to their prenatal clinic appointment details. Scheduled prenatal appointments (including ultrasounds) and gynecology services at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre are not affected by this diversion.

If you feel you may be in labour, and your intended place of delivery is James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, please proceed to Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. If you feel that delivery may happen quickly, please go to your nearest Emergency Department for assessment.

Central Health thanks the public for their understanding and patience while the health region focuses on providing safe and quality obstetrical care.

Updates will be posted on Twitter (@CentralHealthNL).
