Central Health issues RFP to procure new Laboratory Equipment

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

MAY 27, 2020

Central Health would like to advise that it has issued a Request for Proposals for new laboratory equipment for James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre (JPMRHC).

Over the past few years, a provincial working group has been looking at ways to improve services and increase efficiencies in laboratories across the province. One of the ways to do this is to ensure that all locations have equipment that is modern, efficient and meets the needs of the community. Some of Central Health’s laboratory equipment is currently aging out and this RFP will address this issue.

Please be assured the Provincial RFP for Core Lab Equipment, Middleware, and Reagents will have no impact on services provided by the laboratory at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (CNRHC) in Grand-Falls Windsor. There will be no job losses or laboratory closures. Patients will not have to travel for tests or wait longer for results.

Based on recommendations from the provincial working group, there will be a redirection of non-urgent samples collected from our rural laboratories to the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre (JPMRHC) in Gander. CNRHC will also benefit through enhanced lab services in some areas, opportunity to provide more rapid turnaround times, and maintain high quality services to the local population with modern instrumentation.
