Central Health is encouraging individuals to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster this fall. All individuals older than 5 years of age are eligible for a booster 20 weeks from their last dose, regardless of the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses previously received. Individuals are encouraged to receive their booster dose 3 months from having a COVID-19 infection provided it has been 20 weeks since your last dose of vaccine.
Health Canada has authorized the use of the Moderna Spikevax Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine as a booster in adults 18 years of age and older who meet the following criteria:
Adults 65 years of age and older;
Residents of long-term care facilities or congregate living settings for seniors;
Individuals 12 years of age or older with an underlying medical condition that places them at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease;
Adults in or from First Nations, Metis, or Inuit communities, where infection can have disproportionate consequences;
Adults in racialized communities and/or marginalized communities (e.g. people living with disabilities) disproportionately affected by COVID 19
Residents of other congregate care settings (e.g. shelters, group homes, correctional facilities) who are 18 years of age or older.
At this time individuals who do not meet the criteria above will receive the original COVID-19 vaccine booster.
