Central Health would like to advise of a small fire that took place on the roof of the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Care Centre this morning. The Baie Verte Fire Department responded immediately to put out the fire and the facility has been given the all clear. There were no injuries and investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. All 18 residents of the facility were immediately moved to the outpatient area of the facility.
The impacted area has now been deemed safe and Engineering and Support Services are on site to ensure proper ventilation. Visitation for families will be cancelled for today and those scheduled to visit will be contacted directly to reschedule. It is anticipated that all residents will be moved back to their rooms within the next 48 hours. Central Health apologies for any inconvenience caused to patients and their families and thanks the Baie Verte Fire Department for their timely response.
