Statement from Andree Robichaud, President and CEO - Kindness and Respect – Health Care Workers

July 7, 2022

On a daily basis Central Health staff and physicians work tirelessly to go above and beyond to ensure the safe treatment and care of the people we serve. Over the past two years, in addition to the day-to-day services they provide, physicians and staff have had to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a province-wide cyberattack.

Central Health recognizes that the last two years have been, for the population it serves, difficult and at times frustrating in respect of their interactions in health care settings. We feel that it is necessary, however, to remind members of the general public that our employees are due respect in the workplace. It has been brought to the attention of Central Health administration that defamatory social media posts have been made about certain Central Health employees in recent months.

Central Health has a Client Relations Coordinator whose job it is to work with others in the organization to address concerns raised by patients and their families. The Coordinator may be contacted at 1-888-799-2272 or by email clientrelations@centralhealth.nl.ca.

Posting negative comments about Central Health personnel is not a constructive way to deal with concerns or issues about health care in the region. Central Health has a legal obligation to provide a safe and healthy workplace for its personnel and therefore, the health authority will take action to protect its interests, as well as those of its employees, should the organization or its personnel be defamed. We hope that does not become necessary. We thank everyone for providing feedback on ways that we can improve and ask that respect be given to staff as much as it is expected by the population that we serve.
