Virtual ER to support Physician Shortage at Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre

November 15, 2021

Central Health is experiencing a temporary physician shortage on November 16, 25 and 30, 2021 at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre (BVPHC) in Baie Verte. If residents require emergency services on November 16, 25 or 30 from 8:00pm to 8:00am the next morning, they are advised to call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room where they will be seen. During this time, individuals presenting to BVPHC may be assessed through a virtual emergency room service. There will be a Physician available to support patient care on-site, as determined through the initial virtual ER assessment.

With the support of our current Physician Lead, and the collaborative health team, the following services will continue to be offered at the facility:

  1. Emergency

  2. Acute Care (inpatient)

  3. Medical Clinic (doctor’s office)

  4. Lab

  5. Medical Imaging

  6. Continuing Care (Community Nursing)

  7. Physiotherapy

  8. Dietitian

  9. Diabetes Clinic

Central Health continues in its recruitment efforts to ensure the provision of safe and sustainable care across the region.

The Regional Health Authority continues to be proactive in its search to find physician support for BVPHC. Central Health continues its efforts in recruitment for this area for both physicians and non-physician healthcare workers. Central Health has been engaging physicians directly about potential opportunities and is working with an international recruitment firm to assist in its search for physicians.

Central Health apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks you for your patience.
