Adult Care Centre Needs Assessment

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL - The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and Central Health have partnered on another age-friendly initiative. The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, supported by Central Health, has engaged in a needs assessment for an adult care centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The adult care centre needs assessment is part of the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor's Age Friendly Action Plan, and addresses the needs of a changing demographic in the community. Funding for the needs assessment was provided by the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development. This funding directly supports the Department's priority area of "enhancing a community's capacity to plan for and support an aging population".

An adult care centre will aim to:

  • enhance well-being by providing social, physical, and mental stimulation in a supportive group environment,

  • strengthen the ability to remain independent for as long as possible in the community,

  • and provide caregivers with respite from their caregiving roles.

"As our province's population continues to age, people are naturally gravitating to larger service hubs like Grand Falls-Windsor. As Council, we know we have to take a lead role in planning for changing demographics. Our age-friendly initiatives have helped us focus on the needs of older adults in our communities, as well as the people who support them. So as a community, that means we are better prepared to meet the needs of seniors and those who want to age in this community, and become seniors themselves."

-        Barry Manuel, Mayor, Town of Grand Falls-Windsor

"Healthy aging is about a person's overall, life-long health journey. It includes physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health needs. As part of Central Health's Healthy Aging Strategy, our Healthy Aging Advisory Council has identified supportive communities as one of its priorities. Central Health is proud to work with municipal partners like the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor to enhance the role that communities play in supporting an aging population."

-        Louise Jones, Interim President and CEO, Central Health

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor fully embraces the principles of dignity, self-fulfillment, social inclusion, independence, safety, security, and independence.
