Central Health now offering influenza vaccinations to clients requiring home visits

Central Health would like to advise that effective Monday, November 9, 2020, individuals with health concerns who are unable to access the flu vaccine through either the public clinics, their family physician, or pharmacist can request a home visit to get their flu shot. Individuals requiring this service can arrange to speak to a community health nurse by calling 1-844-622-2522 or 1-709-292-8815. Phonelines are covered daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Additionally, home-based immunizations can be arranged by contacting a Central Health Community Health Office (https://www.centralhealth.nl.ca/community-support-residential-servi). Getting a flu shot is important every year, and particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the flu shot will not protect against COVID-19, it will help reduce the risk of getting the flu which, if combined with COVID19, could result in a higher risk for severe illness. Getting vaccinated will also help reduce the spread of influenza in our communities and help reduce the impact on the health-care system in the event of a potential surge of COVID-19 cases.
