Pharmacy Services

Our Pharmacy Team provides a wide range of services to inpatients, outpatients, LTC residents, students and other health care professionals.

 

There are three (3) Pharmacy Departments located within Central Health: Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander and the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre in Twillingate. There are a total of 41 hospitals, health care centers, long term care facilities and community care sites requiring pharmacy services extending from Charlottetown in the east, Fogo Island in the north, Harbour Breton in the south, to Baie Verte in the west.

Our Pharmacy Team consists of Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Management support and clerical support.

Mission Statement:

What we do:

Hospital Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians are trusted and valued members of the healthcare team and work closely with patients, physicians, nurses and other health professionals to ensure that medication use is safe and effective by:

 

  • Ensuring that drug therapy decisions are safe and appropriate

  • Providing patients and healthcare team with up-to-date drug information

  • Contributing to development of treatment plans through participation in patient care rounds

  • Monitoring, recommending or making changes to drug therapy

  • Manufacturing specialized medications such as chemotherapy for cancer treatments, IV admixtures and other compounded products.

  • Distributing medications to all services areas within Central Health

  • Analyzing data about medication incidents

  • Studying patterns of medication use

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating practice changes that promote safe and cost-effective drug use

  • Procuring medications for use in hospital

  • Finding alternate suppliers in response to drug shortages

Location Hours:

 

The pharmacy hours of operation at Central NL Regional Health Centre and James Paton Memorial Health Centre are:

 

Monday to Friday 0800 to 1700 hours

Saturday & Sunday 0800 to 1600 hours

Statutory holidays 0800 to 1600 hours

Exceptions to these hours may be made as necessary and will be circulated to all necessary departments (example, Christmas Day) ahead of time.

 

The pharmacy hours of operation at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate are:       

         

Monday to Friday 0800-1600 hours

 

A Clinical Pharmacist is on-call at all times outside of regular hours of operation. This service is to provide information in response to specific queries which may occur after normal operating hours.
