Accessing a Midwife

I would like to have midwifery services during my pregnancy; how do I contact a midwife?
To reach the midwifery office, please call (709) 651-6489 to fill out an intake form.

How do I obtain midwifery care?
Most clients will self-refer to the midwifery program by contacting the midwifery office directly at the number above. Midwives also accept referrals from other health care professionals such as family physicians and nurse practitioners.

When should I contact a midwife?
You can contact a midwife as soon as you know you are pregnant. A positive home pregnancy test is adequate, no need to see your physician to confirm.

When will I have my first prenatal visit?
Generally, the first visit is scheduled at around 8-10 weeks of pregnancy. Your first appointment will review midwifery care to ensure you are choosing the best care for you.

Where in Newfoundland will midwifery services be available?
Midwifery services are currently only available in Gander.
