Central Health Visitor Restrictions Update

February 9, 2022

Central Health is pleased to advise that effective Thursday, February 10, 2022, each patient or resident at hospitals, long term care homes, health centres and personal care homes can have two support persons visiting. The care team will work with patients, residents and families to identify the support persons.

In addition, the following guidelines apply:

  • Support persons should remain consistent as much as possible but may be changed every 14 days.

  • Pediatric in-patients are permitted to have both parents/guardians as support persons, who may be present in the facility at the same time.

Patients in ICU are permitted to have two support persons and should remain consistent as much as possible but may be changed every 14 days.

  • Palliative care and end-of-life visitation will be made in collaboration with families and the care team.

  • All visitors will be screened at entry and are required to wear a mask for the duration of their visit.

  • Individuals who go to emergency departments or attend appointments may have a support person. One parent can accompany children in the emergency department or for other appointments.

  • Visitation by the support person may be limited in areas of outbreak. Families will be advised in the event visitation is restricted.

Please click here to see the complete guidance, as outlined by the Department of Health and Community Services.

For those unable to visit in person at this time, please consider virtual visitation as an alternate way to connect with loved ones during these visitor restrictions. To arrange for a virtual visit, please also discuss your request with the care team.

Central Health understands the impact visitor restrictions may have on families and residents/patients. Individuals with questions may contact their loved one’s health care team. These precautions are in place to protect those who are most vulnerable. Central Health would like to thank the public for their understanding and co-operation at this time.
