Public Advisory: Multi-Patient Occurrence

August 22, 2022

Central Health has advised the Provincial Government that it is reviewing mammography results for patients of Central Health to identify possible diagnostic discrepancies. This is the result of notification that some viewing workstations used for digital review did not meet the recommended technical standard for the review of mammography images.

Presently, Central Health is addressing the occurrence and preparing notifications for those impacted, and will provide a formal update on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.

Following the update, the Regional Health Authority will notify by letter all patients whose mammography images are being reviewed and will contact any impacted patients via telephone and letter to outline next steps.

Central Health recognizes the importance of quickly sharing information with impacted patients and alleviating the concerns that many may be feeling at this time. Central Health is taking all required steps internally to address this occurrence in a timely and thorough manner. Please be assured that scheduled mammograms will proceed and be read to technical standards.

Central Health apologizes to all involved patients and will have further information to share with the public on Wednesday. We thank you for your patience and understanding and while we understand this may cause concern, patients do not need to contact their primary care providers or the regional health authority at this time. Central Health will be reaching out to patients whose mammography images are part of this review.
